Magnolia Tree Nursery in Tampa Bay

A southern tradition, the Magnolia tree thrives in Florida.  It’s famous fragrant, white, creamy cup-shaped flowers bloom mid to late summer in the Tampa Bay area.   The thick, green, glossy leaves provide a tremendous amount of shade when given the opportunity to grow and spread. Magnolia Flower

Care Information

One reason for the Magnolia Tree’s immense popularity, other than the flowers, is the fact that it is easy to maintain and will grow in a wide variety of settings.  It does, however, fair best in moist, rich soils that drain well.   Monthly fertilizer should be spread during the first three years for optimal growth.  Magnolias do not grow flowers for several years so healthy growth will shorten the time it takes to bloom.  Very important to give it plenty of water in the first years so it establishes a deep root system that will make it more hardy in maturity. Magnolias should be pruned periodically, at least once year in late winter, to cut off dead limbs and to keep a general pyramid shape.  Let it remain full at the bottom and the pyramid will insure even growth.

Design Ideas

Since it can grow very tall and thin yet remain full, the Magnolia is a great solution for open space to create separation between two properties or taller buildings.  It can also be a great complement to an otherwise uniform group of pine or other trees.
