Care Information
Consistent thorough watering during the first growing season after planting will insure an extensive root system under the Gardenia tree to make sure it will thrive for the rest of its life. The soil should be well drained, however, since they do not perform well in soggy ground. A fairly thick layer of mulch should be covering the root system to keep it cool, especially during the hot summer months of Tampa Bay. Prune Gardenias after they flower in the summer.
Design Ideas
As mentioned before, our customers in Tampa use Gardenias for many functions because of its tremendous versatility. Keep in mind that they do not like temperatures to dip below freezing. Since the scent is one of its most prized characteristics, try to plant them in a location where a breeze can guide the odor into the home or a back porch where visitor congregate. Also, keep them away from concrete where the alkalinity in the soil will most likely cause nutritional problems. Keep it Green can help you with Gardenia Trees in many sizes.
