Hibiscus at Keep it Green Nursery

Hibiscus plants are widely recognized as one of the most frequently planted tropical shrubs in the Tampa area because they are decorative and generally have vibrant flowers that last for only one day, but bloom all year long.  There are countless varieties with many different colors, especially considering all the hybrids growers create.  We focus on carrying many variations of the Hibiscus rosa-sinensis since it is a pure breed and thrives in our region.  Painted Lady, Seminole, and Double Peach are some of the types we sell, each a different color.  They bloom either single or double flowers and bloom throughout the entire year.

You can control the timing of when the hibiscus flowers.  They tend to bloom when you trim them with your hedge trimmers.  They are heavy feeders so if you trim then feed, you can promote flowering and should maintain a long term lush plant full of color.

Care Information

Hibiscus are popular as indoor or outdoor plants and the care for them varies accordingly.  Make sure the plant gets plenty of light if indoors.  Keep the soil barely moist and circulate the air if it becomes buggy. Hibiscus grown outdoors should be relatively care-free if given enough light.  It gets a little tricky in the Tampa area during winter.  The shrubs will need a cover when the temperature drops even close to freezing if you want to save the leaves. Stem damage won’t occur until the temperature lowers into the twenties.
